400 years since Galileo

I see from the media that it’s 400 years today since Galileo demonstrated his telescope in Venice.

My recent poem seems very pertinent : the one about Galileo’s telescope and the effect it had on our understanding, plus the more recent discoveries of Hubble and the space telescope named after him. You can read this in the poems for August 2009 or follow this link: MARCO POLO ESTABLISHES THE SILK ROAD « The poetry:prose/prose:poetry converter

There’s a clear explanation together with nice photo in the Guardian online today at http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/blog/2009/aug/25/galileos-telescope-400-years-anniversary . I’ll reproduce their photo with the poem and hope that they won’t mind.
